My Top Three Beliefs

Posted by: Student Tai on: December 12, 2009

I believe that everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by accident. Everything is meant to happen or as I call it the will of the force. I have had many reasons for believing in this one is because things always work out good in the end the bad times are to teach us. Give us realization of things such as appreciation. Sometimes we may have to go through a tough time to realize that we should appreciate what we have. Another reason is more scientific that anything else, but we cannot take two steps without taking one therefore that first step is needed. When I was about 13 years old I was going through a tough time, I was self harming and I eventually took an overdose. In hospital I realized what I was doing and how much worry and pain I caused to my family. When I got out of hospital I went to a psychologist to help me get on the right path and to get my head sorted out. When I was all sorted I finally started caring for my family and people around me and I started the Jedi path. Me being in hospital was meant to happen so I could realise what I was doing to the people I love.

I also believe that one contrast cannot live without the other. Light cannot exist without dark, up cannot exist without down, yin cannot survive without yang. We need to have both contrasts for many different reasons. Let’s take yin and yang for example. We are constantly using both over and over, in many different ways. When we walk we use it, when we lift our leg up we are using yin and when we put it down we use yang. Also if we look at positive and negative, one cannot survive without the other. We have to have both positive and negative in our lifetime or we can miss out on valuable lessons. We need to have some bad times to learn things for example my overdoes story above.

Another belief I have but is more of a concept is unity. I believe that we should all do our best to unite the world. Our world has a lot of chaos and darkness in it so unity can make less of that and spread more love to the world. Again looking at my overdoes story me having that experience got my united with my family maybe not physically but being able to love and cooperate with them. There is no problem that cant be solved through unity. Unity will bring more love and less chaos.

Your first belief is very interesting, and I think actually hits on several topics; such as there are no coincidences but also the gift of gratitude. Neither of which we can really do with out.

As for your concept of duality that is very interesting. You will actually touch upon those in both Force, Creed and I think Spirituality as well. But sometimes its not so much the events that occur, but our reactions to them that change us. Such as your example: you chose to find the positive in the negative, others might not. Yet another reason why I think taking Personal will help to reinforce these ideas.

But I challenge you on that concept of Unity. If a dichotomy of light and dark should exist or peace and chaos; then who are we to determine there should be more of one or less of another. While there are some common sense answers to that, I challenge you to think about it. What about finding balance in it, as is the focus of yin an yan….not less or more, but finding an equal amount of each.

I think one of the amazing things about being human is our ability to make meaning, to create a story. It’s very disconcerting to think of the world as a random series of events. Rather, we try to see how one thing affects the next. The fact that we can “reflect” and “imagine” are powerful tools. It gives us a deeper insight and truly grow from our experiences.

I also would like for you to closer examine your concepts of “unity”, as it relates to this “duality.” At first glance, your 2nd belief makes your 3rd belief sound impossible. If there is always 2, then there can never be 1. However, if you mean to say that the 2 forces should work towards a common goal (growth, education, life, etc), then that makes sense. Perhaps there isn’t a dichotomy, maybe it’s just to help us categorize the world into something simpler.
